After the Pulwama attack: lift curfew in Jammu, normal life resumes
Curfew was imposed after the February 14 Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed when an explosive-laden van had collided with his messenger.
Jammu: Officials removed the curfew of the day in Jammu on Thursday, facilitating resumption of normal activities in the city, in which there were massive protests after the Pulwama terrorist attack.
The market reopened and came back to public transport roads. Due to curfew and restrictions, the school was reopened even after one week's closure.
Jammu district magistrate Ramesh Kumar issued two orders and announced to ease the curfew in all areas of Jammu district from 7 am to 6 pm for 11 hours.
The District Magistrate initially ordered to relax the curfew in the whole city from 7 am to 2 pm and later extended the exemption limit upto 6 p.m. as per the order.
However, to maintain law and order, restrictive orders are in effect, officials said.
To announce the relaxation of the curfew, the policemen were circling the city this morning and asked the people to start their normal activities again. 2G mobile Internet services have been restored in the district.
However, all colleges and universities in the district are closed.
"All examinations have been canceled at Jammu University. There will be no education", said JU Pro Vinay Tushu.
However, officials said that the examination of 8th and 9th classes in all the districts of Jammu region will be held on Thursday.
Officials said that in case of restrictions in any area, the admission of students and the identity card of the teachers will be considered as a curfew pass. Shops and business establishments were reopened throughout the city, while public transport also resumed in most of the routes because people came out of their homes to buy essential commodities.
In some areas, people complained about the lack of vegetables, milk and ration and demanded that the ATM be started immediately as they are running out of cash. They also complained about the non-availability of public transport in some routes. All liquor shops and bars will also be closed.
