About Kanpur city

Kanpur

Kanpur is the most important industrial center of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of the Ganges. It is famous for fine quality leather and cloth accessories. Now it is one of the major industrial cities with aviation, wool and leather industry, cotton, flour and vegetable oil mills, Chinese refineries and chemical works. Formerly known as the country's Manchester, it is now called the state's commercial capital.

Geography of Kanpur

Kanpur is situated on the banks of Ganges river and the most important national highway no. 2 and 25 and state highways. It is also located on the main Delhi-Howrah railway trunk line. Its area is more than 1000 km² and it is approximately 126 meters above sea level. Kanpur has benefited from the fertile agricultural land of Upper Ganga Valley and Bundelkhand Plateau, with the available available transport links and its industrial demand, with the stimulus of World War II. History of Kanpur

It is believed that established by Raja Hindu Singh of the predecessor state of Kanpur, originally Kanpur was known as 'Kanhpur'. By the first half of the second half of the 18th century, Kanpur was living as an unimportant village. In May 1765, Nawab Vazir Shuja-ud-Daula of Awadh was defeated by the British near Jajamau. It was probably at this time that the strategic importance of Kanpur's site was felt by the British. European traders gradually started establishing itself in Kanpur till this time. The Treaty of 1801 came under the British rule of Kanpur with the Nawab Saadat Ali Khan of Awadh. This is a significant turning point in the history of Kanpur. Soon Kanpur became one of the most important military stations of British India. It was declared a district on March 24, 1803.

Later, Kanpur became the center of the outbreak of 1857, because some prominent publishers of the war of independence were named after it, such as Nana Sahib, Tatya Tope, Azimullah Khan and Brig Jwal Prasad. The three strategic events of the 1857 war in Kanpur were the battle of 'killing of Wheeler', 'Genocide on Sati Chaura Ghat' and 'Beibgarh Massacre'. Nana Saheb had declared independence on 7 June 1857 in Kanpur.

Under the commander Hugh Wheeler, a shallow earth retreat in the British cantonment area, which later became known as the 'entry of Wheeler' in history. On the terms of safe passage to go to Allahabad, the British surrendered in prison in the last week of June 1857. But on the morning of June 27, when the Sati Chaura Ghat was going to board the sailboats with women and children, the fight started and most of the people were killed. The surviving people, women and children were rescued and imprisoned in the Saadha Kothi and later shifted to the BBigha in 'Cantonment Magistrate' campus.

But when it became clear that relief forces under the Havelock were near the city and the defeat was inevitable, the captives - all the women and children were massacred and their demolished bodies buried on 15 July 1957 in the wells of the premises Were given. Bibigarh was destroyed by the British and the reconstruction of Kanpur and a 'monument railing and a cross' were taken at the place of well. Only the remains of a circular ridge survive, which can still be seen in Nana Rao Park. Kanpur Memorial Church - `The All Soul Cathedral 'was raised by the British in 1862 with respect to the north-east corner of Wheeler's entry. After independence in 1947, the marble gothic screen with the famous `Shokakul Seraph was transferred to the Church of All Souls Church, and instead a group of Tantia Tope, established in place of Nana Rao Park was formed.

After 1857, the development of Kanpur was even more unprecedented. Government Harness and Saddler factory was started in 1860 for the supply of leather material for the army, followed by Cooper Allen & Company in 1880. In 1862 the first cotton cloth mill, algin mills and moire mills started.

The city also enjoys popularity with popular Hindu literature like Acharya Mahavir Parasad Dwivedi, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Pratap Narayan Mishra, Acharya Gaya Prasad Shukla 'Sannehi' and Balkrishna Sharma Naveen.

Tourist Attractions of Kanpur

Kanpur Memorial Church (All Soul Cathedral)

The Kanpur Memorial Church, built in 1875, was designed by Walter Granville. This Gothic style building features stained glass windows and interesting monuments. There is a memorial garden on the east side. There is a carved Gothic screen, designed by Henry Yule, and in the center there is a beautiful carved figure of an angel by Baron Carlo Marocetti, which represents the 'symbol of peace'. There are many graves in the cemetery since the end of the 19th century.

Jain Glass Temple

It is located in Maheshwari Mohall behind Kamala Tower. It is a beautiful temple which is decorated with the works of glass and mint.

Jajmau

In ancient times, Jajmau, known as Siddhpuri, is believed to be known as the place of Yayati, the Puranic King and the high mound surrounding the Ganga are known as the place of their fort. During the period 1957-58, the excavations of the Jajamu mounds were found in 600 BC to 1600 AD. Now, there are Siddhvatha and Siddha Devi temples in Jajmu and the tomb of Makhdum Shah Ala-Ul-Haq, famous Sufi Saint created by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in 1358. There is also a mosque built by Kulich Khan in 1679.

Shri Radhakrishna Temple

This beautifully built temple is a unique mixture of ancient and modern architecture. The same level of roofs of the pavilions have provided adequate light and enough ventilation for the wind. One of the five pilgrim centers in the temple is dedicated to Shri Radhakrishna and others have statues of Shri Lakshminarayan, Shri Ardhanarishwar, Shri Narmeshwar and Shri Hanuman.

Flower garden (ganesh industry)

This is a beautiful park in the center of the city on Mall Road. There is a Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial in the center of the park, which is usually used for public meetings. Annual flower shows are organized here. It has a summer house and a large public library.

Caterpillar retreat

Located on the Kamala Nehru Marg, there is a museum in Kamala Retreat, which has a rich collection of historical and archaeological artifacts. In addition to the park and canal, there is also a zoo with amenities for boating.

Nana Rao Park

Formerly known as Memorial Well Garden, it is Kanpur's largest park and is situated in the center of the city on Mall Road. After independence, in 1857, it was renamed after Nana Rao Peshwa, the hero of the first war of independence. It is very beautifully prepared and has a plant nursery.

Brijendra Swaroop Park

Located in the Aryanagar region of Kanpur, there are large lawns and playgrounds in this park.

Pearl catch

There is a drinking water reservoir of Kanpur Waterworks and it is located in Benjbar area of ​​the city. The area around the catch or lake has recently been developed in a beautiful recreation grounds and children's park.

Green Park

It is Kanpur's best and most famous playground. International cricket matches are held here and it is one of the best pitches in the world.
